Port/tunneled catheter placement

When central venous access is needed for ongoing feeding, dialysis, medication delivery, or frequent blood sampling, your MIT radiologist will use fluoroscopy and ultrasound image guidance to install either a tunneled catheter, which leads to the chest near the heart and has a tiny exit point through the skin leading to a bag, or a port catheter, which leads to a device beneath the skin, usually placed comfortably in the torso, neck, or peripheral limb.

Your radiologist and trained technicians will work with you to determine the proper catheter type and placement to best fit your needs and allow for maximum mobility and comfort.
