High Definition Care, Focused On You
Welcome to Medical Imaging and Therapeutics! Our practice features board-certified doctors, friendly staff, and a complete line of medical imaging and minimally-invasive outpatient therapies. We know that the medical world can be a little confusing, but we’re here to make the process as easy and pleasant as possible. Our doctors and staff are down-to-earth. We will take the time to explain every test, every process and every option. We invite you to visit us, knowing that you’re among trusted, experienced, caring professionals who are devoted to your physical and emotional well-being.
Standards To Live By
We at MIT (Medical Imaging and Therapeutics) are dedicated to providing:
- Quality Care
- Patient Safety
- Advocacy
- Research
- Public Awareness
- Accountability
Belonging to the following organizations helps us create guidelines and accreditations to offer the highest standards in patient care. It is our mission to place top priority on meeting these standards so that we may pass our expertise on to you!
We Pledge To Image Wisely – Safer Medical Imaging
Medical radiation exposure has been a frequent topic in modern media. We at MIT strive to provide the highest-quality images while keeping your radiation exposure as low as possible. The care and safety of our patients is our top priority.
While Ultrasound and MRI will not expose you to radiation, other imaging studies, such as CT and Xray, will. These studies have improved the way we practice medicine and have saved countless lives. However, too much medical radiation may lead to health risks. It is currently unknown to us exactly how many Xrays or CT scans a patient can have before he or she is at increased risk. The responsibility lies in the hands of our medical community to ensure that a patient’s lifetime exposure to medical radiation is kept at a minimum. We do this all while still detecting disease as early as possible!
Radiation Dosing In Medical Imaging
Our CT scanners are equipped with dose modulation. This adjusts the amount of radiation used based on the size of a patient or body part. Larger studies require more radiation to generate high-quality images. Less radiation is required for smaller patients or smaller body parts. This dose customization ensures that no patient receives too much radiation to produce his or her images.
Radiation dosing can vary based on the study. For example, female breast tissue is more sensitive to radiation. During CT scans we place breast shields on female patients to decrease the radiation absorbed by the breast. We can use thyroid shields in the same way.
Our Digital DR Xray machine is a world class imaging system with cutting edge technology. This system produces ultrahigh-definition images very quickly. It reduces exposure time and overall exposure to the patient. We also have a dose monitoring software system in our practice. This software keeps track of radiation exposure for each patient who has received imaging studies here at our clinic.
Maintaining Medical Imaging Safety
We will monitor CT studies on a regular basis to make sure that the CT dose index stays within the guides of the American College of Radiology. This means the amount of radiation used during our studies is safe.
We enjoy working with our referring doctors to choose the best imaging study for their patients. If there is a study that does not use radiation while providing equal or better information, we will encourage that exam. Each of our radiologists are happy to talk with our fellow doctors about what would be the best test for their patients. Please feel free to contact us to review or discuss cases.
Finally, we at Medical Imaging and Therapeutics have made the pledge with the American College of Radiology to Image Wisely. We are all responsible for the level of radiation our patients receive. We pledge to use the newest technology and imaging methods to make sure that the patients in our care are imaged as safely as possible.
