CRYOABLATION

What is Cryoablation?

Cryoablation allows us to destroy or stop diseased tissue without using invasive surgeries. With liquid nitrogen or argon gas, we can create an extremely cold temperature. We then channel this intense cold through a hollow needle to make contact with the tissue. Our team can use this method on the surface of the body, or for internal tissues with the help of image guidance.

About The Procedure

We will first make a small incision at the treatment site. Using advanced image guidance, our MIT radiologist will then place the cryoprobe into or near the diseased tissue. This is just the instrument we use to apply extremely cold temperatures. The cold delivered to the diseased cells freezes them in their tracks, stopping blood flow to the area. This causes those cells to die.

The Cryoablation procedure can be particularly effective in treating:

  • Lung tumors
  • Breast tumors
  • Prostate tumors
  • Liver tumors
  • Kidney tumors
  • Masses throughout the body
  • Nodules
  • Skin tags
  • Freckles

What Will I Experience?

Depending on the procedure, the site may be numbed with a local anesthetic prior to making any incisions. You may feel a slight pinch or some pressure. Still, this procedure should cause you minimal discomfort, if any. If we perform a cryoablation on the surface of your skin, you may resume regular activities. If your procedure was done on internal tissues or organs, a recovery time of a few days can be expected.

Since the Cryoablation treatment is a minimally invasive procedure, we can perform it outpatient at our Lady Lake office. Call us Monday through Friday to learn more or schedule your appointment!
